Plea To Relocate LuLu Project From Beach Road

Uttarandhra Adhyayana Vedika has appealed to Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu to reconsider the decision to allot the prime land overlooking the beach at APIIC Harbour Park for establishment of a hypermarket, international convention centre and other commercial facilities by the UAE-based LuLu Group. Honorary president and former member of UPSC Prof KS Chalam said "we wish to bring to your kind notice the commotion of common citizens of Visakhapatnam after learning from the press that the abandoned idea of constructing Rs.1500-crore Lulu project at RK Beach is being reconsidered. The tourism sector touting that it brings lot of investment and jobs for Vizagites is only a nightmare. We do not want the project on the RK Beach as it is already overloaded and environmentally and aesthetically made ugly with several commercial activities within a small stretch on the coastal region. It comes within the 500 meters of the HTL or CRZ limit and invites PILs and other litigation."
Chalam said it was due to the strong opposition and civil society against the proposal the previous government side stepped on. It seems the previous government had provided alternatives to the APIIC and it is against the will of the common people of the city and North Andhra. RK Beach is the only place of common access to entertainment and relaxation for lower middle class and middle class of the city who constitute the major chunk of the voters in Vizag, he stated.
